Kadavu Island is located approx 100kls (60mls) south of Suva, the capital of Fiji. It is the fourth largest of the 300 odd islands in Fiji and is virtually undeveloped. The island is surrounded by coral reefs with magnificent palm fringed beaches and rugged terrain. At the southwestern end lies Nabukulevu, an extinct volcano. The length is approx 80kls (50 miles) and the width varies. The native population of some 12,000 still live quite traditionally in 72 villages scattered throughout the island. Moody's Namena Resort Namenalala Island lies 15 miles off the southeastern coast of Vanua Levu, and remained uninhabited in recent history until its rediscovery in 1983 by our hosts, Tom and Joan Moody. Less than 10 of its 110 acres have been developed for the resort. Sea birds and turtles treat the island the way it has been for hundreds of years... as if it were still uninhabited. Dive sites are within a 10-20 minute boat trip from the island and, depending upon the tide, the dive site is chosen by your Divemaster to give you both a spectacular and relaxed dive.
