Travel to the Middle East? Is it Safe to go to the Red Sea?
We at South Pacific Island Travel are being asked this in these days of unrest and violence in Israel and the Middle East.
Traveling in Egypt remains untouched by these problems. All live-aboards and resorts are operating in the Red Sea. They are far removed, economically and geographically, from troubled areas in the Middle East. We have had groups go there recently on the M/V Oyster and have a wonderful time. The Egyptians remain friendly and warm, and welcome western travelers and divers.
The Red Sea is a spectacular diving area, and Egypt a fascinating country to travel to. While it remains a personal decision on the part of any traveler to go to this area, we feel there is no reason not to.
